Personal Style, Confidence and a New Season: An Evening at Carla Zampatti Mosman
Last week I had the pleasure of hosting an evening of fashion and styling with the team at Carla Zampatti’s Mosman boutique, joined by CEO Alex Schuman.
With the new Spring Summer collection to explore, it was a lovely opportunity to connect with the brand’s cherished customers, share styling ideas and talk about what makes clothing feel right for the woman wearing it. These conversations are one of my favourite parts of being a Stylist. A beautiful garment might catch our attention, but understanding how it fits into our lives is what helps us decide whether it belongs in our wardrobe.
Throughout the evening, we explored how to make new-season pieces feel personal, wearable and relevant. Here are a few ideas you can take into your own wardrobe.
Start with your life, then look at the collection
Before shopping, think about where you actually need your clothes to take you.
Are you dressing for client meetings, lunches, presentations or special occasions? Do you need pieces that move comfortably between work and an evening out?
A garment can be beautiful and still have little purpose in your wardrobe. Asking “Where would I wear this?” and “What would I wear it with?” helps you make a more considered choice.
For my corporate clients, this often means looking for pieces with presence: a flattering dress, a well-cut jacket or trousers that create a strong foundation for several outfits.
Let shape do some of the work
We often focus on colour or print first, but the cut of a garment can have just as much impact. A defined shoulder, an interesting neckline or a beautifully shaped sleeve can bring character to an outfit without needing many accessories. When trying something on, look at the overall balance. Where does the hem finish? Does the waist sit comfortably? How does the piece move when you walk or sit?
Small adjustments can make a significant difference. The right trouser length or a minor alteration to a sleeve can help an outfit feel much more polished.
Use colour with intention
A new season is a good opportunity to explore colour, particularly if your wardrobe has become a little repetitive. Start by noticing what a colour does near your face. Does it bring you to life? Do you feel comfortable wearing it? Can you combine it with pieces you already own? If you are hesitant, introduce colour through one garment and build around it with familiar neutrals. You do not need to change your entire wardrobe to create a fresh direction.
Colour can also become part of your personal signature, helping you feel recognisable and consistent in how you present yourself.
Give a special piece more than one outing
When considering an investment piece, think beyond its first occasion.
Could a jacket work with tailored trousers for a presentation and with denim for dinner? Could a dress feel different with a change of shoe, jewellery or outer layer?
Exploring these combinations helps you see the full potential of a purchase. It also makes getting dressed easier because you already have a few ways to wear it.
Make room for enjoyment
There is a practical side to building a wardrobe, but there should be enjoyment in it too. One of the loveliest parts of the evening was sharing that experience with women who appreciate the pleasure of getting dressed. Fashion gives us room to express ourselves, celebrate an occasion and enjoy a little luxury.
Thank you to Alex Schuman, the Carla Zampatti Mosman team and everyone who joined us for such a warm and engaging evening.
If you are considering a wardrobe refresh, start with what you want your clothes to help you do and how you want to feel wearing them. That is where personal style begins.
With style,
Caitlin
