Muted Colour Combinations That Feel Modern for Winter

Winter wardrobes often default to black, navy, chocolate brown and burgundy. The stores at present here is Oz look like waves of porridge and prune. While these deeper tones feel grounding and practical during the cooler months, dressing entirely in dark neutrals can sometimes start to feel a little heavy or repetitive.
The good news is that adding colour in winter doesn’t need to mean bright statement dressing. Some of the most sophisticated colour combinations are actually the softer, more considered pairings that add depth, contrast and personality without feeling overly bold.
These combinations are a great way to introduce colour into a winter wardrobe while still maintaining a polished and refined feel. Below are some of my favourites for clients who don't like to go bold when it comes to colour.
Bright Green + Chocolate Brown
Rich, grounding and unexpectedly fresh. The green adds energy and contrast to chocolate brown without overwhelming the look.
Powder Blue + Navy + Burgundy
A softer take on winter colour dressing. Powder blue lightens deeper tones beautifully while still feeling polished and sophisticated.
Burgundy + Butter Yellow
Warm, elegant and quietly luxurious. Butter yellow softens burgundy and brings warmth to winter dressing without feeling too bright. Many people don't wear yellow and this can be a safe way to do so.
Dusty Pink + Chocolate Brown
Soft and refined. Dusty pink adds subtle warmth and femininity to chocolate brown while still feeling modern and understated.

Colour Doesn’t Need To Be Loud
Those who know me know that I am a big fan of using colour in my styling. However, one of the biggest misconceptions around colour is that wearing it means dressing brightly or dramatically. In reality, some of the most impactful wardrobes use colour in a restrained and intentional way.
Sometimes all it takes is one unexpected pairing to make a winter wardrobe feel more modern, elevated and interesting, without stepping too far outside your comfort zone.
With style,
Caitlin
